I came to live in North Somercotes in March 1989 - to be near my son - but with some of his friends I was asked to start an "Art Group".
A notice was put in the Communication Magazine and had a good response - so I went on to organise it.
We started September 1989 - Venue : The Pavilion in the Playing Fields.
Amongst the members were 2 artists, Dennis Woodward and Arthur Hildred. Dennis did the teaching for about 18 months, when Arthur took over.
There have been two exhibitions held in The Methodist School Room - attended well and enjoyed. At the first one I met Pete Tasker (artist) and asked if he was interested - he has since come in an Advisory Capacity.
In 1992 we moved to the Stable Room, (behind the Methodist Chapel), which was more suitable - and are still there.
Arthur sadly died - he'd been with us for 8 years - so I took on the teaching assisted by Pete.
The members have fluctuated over the years - but we have kept going. We are entirely freelance and a friendly group. As a small group no Committee is necessary. I run it and keep the members in touch with all that goes on - and if decisions are needed it goes by Majority Vote.
