DID YOU KNOW ?
There has been a Coastguard Company at North Somercotes for 80 years. Originating at Donna Nook, and bearing that name, the Company originally comprised of 5 full time Coastguard Officers and 18 auxiliaries.

DID YOU KNOW ?
The Coastguard Company and its role has changed dramatically over the years. The main casualties were "ship ashore" and the men summoned by a "maroon" and loud it was. We all assembled, complete with breeches buoy equipment and loud hailer. Today we are bleeped out, provided with G.P.S. and radios, 4 x 4 vehicle and protective clothing, plus back up as we need it.

DID YOU KNOW ?
Our area covers 16 miles of coastline, from Saltfleet Haven in the south, to Tetney Haven in the north, covering a bombing range, several hundred seals, holiday makers, bird watchers, miles of creeks and fast flowing tides, day and night. Our role is more involved with lost, cut-off by the tide, missing persons and patrols.

DID YOU KNOW ?
We are trained as an Instant Response Team and can call upon Helicopters, Inshore Lifeboats from both Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes, and the Humber Lifeboat. Also, our flank Coastguard Companies - who we give support to in times of emergency.
The Company has always been made up of local men and still is:
G. Merrikin Station Officer
S. Arundel Deputy Sheriff
Martin Smith Martin Robinson
Keith Gibson Rod Jacklin
Phil Lowis
We have 150 years service between us. We are on call 24 hours, 365 days of the year. We enjoy our voluntary work and support of the public. Sometimes when we have been quiet for a few weeks we wonder are we necessary, then last week we were called out at 10.30p.m. to search for a 3 year old missing girl. She was found safe, and, Yes! We are necessary!
