A Fabulous, Fantastic, Friendly Festival!
Thank you to everyone who helped with the Christmas Tree Festival which transformed our beautiful Church into a magical, vibrant place. The months of planning and preparation provided the Village with a truly spectacular experience. It brought together many organisations, each with their individual contributions, to create a magnificent display. Each tree reflected different skills and interests and Somercotes might even give this year’s Turner Prize entries a run for their money with the construction from the Damien Hirst School of Art, and a string of knitted sausages!
The amazing, gigantic paper sculptures by Martyn Pigeon have been left for further visitors to enjoy. It is difficult to appreciate that they are not carved.
The refreshments and musical entertainment were superb. There was something for all ages to enjoy.
As Bishop John commented at the opening, ‘The Festival is a true expression of celebration at Christmas, with the whole community working together in friendship, regardless of their individual beliefs.’
