North Somercotes Kids Club started in the Primary School, in September 1998, 4 days per week. At first it was run by Richard and Helen Hill each evening, with toys and games set up in the hall, after assembly finished.
In November Kerri Looker joined the staff, and is now a qualified playworker, having completed her Take 10 for Play course.
In January 1999 the club moved to the Craft Centre at Pigeon Cottage, and was able to offer 5 evenings per week at this time.
We have received assistance, both financial and advisory, from Kids Club for Lincolnshire, with which we are registered, and in September our final step towards registration with the Children's section of the Independent Inspection Unit was completed.
The new building at Pigeon Cottage was completed at the end of July and the children now have more than twice the amount of indoor space as they had before, and a separate toilet block.
They also have a large field to run on, a football pitch and play equipment.
Our most successful activity is swimming on a Monday evening at Marshchapel. Fifteen children regularly attend and we have three staff on duty for this activity.
From September onwards we have been able to offer cookery, as well as all the crafts and games we have had in the past.
Don't forget, if you are entitled to claim working family tax credit, as from October 70% of the cost of a place in a registered facility such as ours, will be paid for by tax credit. Your child's place will therefore only cost 90p for 2 hours and we provide a snack and drink as well! If you would like to know more contact Helen on 359063.
